A lot of the dealers around here have "demo days" where you can try different models for free. I had my heart set on a Current Design model a few years ago...had even picked out the colours. Then I rented one and it was uncomfortable and my butt fell asleep. so try lots of them, don't rush into it, as even used ones are expensive. For casual use, plastic is fine...you can drag them up on a rocky beach without worrying about scratching it. Best thing to do is to rent several different kinds.
