The shape of its hull makes it slow on a wave, its designed for bouncing not carving. The fins on the s6x wont have much effect either and the ones on the sidewall are a complete gimmick. If you are looking for a older boat that will perform alright in the ocean look as something like a riot tekno.
The recoil looks a little better but is still not ideal. When looking for a kayak for the ocean you want a boat with very little stern rocker and a good carving edge. The element kinda sits in the middle of a full on surf kayak and a playboat. If you want to do want i was doing in the video you are going to need a really fast playboat. Most surf kayaks are not designed to do those kind of moves. Or you could go with a regular playboat and loose the ability to carve and outrun the section.
i use a liquidlogic vision, it’s super fast on the carve with stupid sharp edges for a playboat, if you can get used to one, give it a go! it’s truly awesome on ocean waves… quite hard to get ahold of these days though!
Hey guys good news, the element is now available in composite! I have been paddling one for a few weeks and this thing rocks! I’ll hopefully put up a new video in the next few weeks.
OMG what a great video! i tell you though, that cameraman is machine. i mean he’s literally doing two jobs! that guy in the video is pretty average. what kind of a name is andrewp49 anyway. i’m guessing andrewp1-48 were taken. and who surfs sitting down? this is the kind of sport eric cartman would do. “screw you guys, i’m going home!”
Here’s a FREESTYLE KAYAK for sale on Craigslist, that you can do all these same tricks with.

Great Vid gets me totally stoked to go! Question for anyone? For kayak surfing (ocean) is it ok for the tip of the boat to be pointed like some whitewater kayaks?

yes, but you will need a bigger wave, because the s6x is slower than this surfkayak.
good video and nice tricks.
