It’s all good and well getting your new Old Town Kayak. You go to the shop and choose the kayak of your dreams. Your car is all set up to bring your new kayak home, so you load it up on your car and come home. Then what?

This is where most folks forget to set up an area for the kayak to be stored. You got to remember that you can just squeeze it in a corner of your garage and think that that is good enough as you have paid quite a bit of money for it, so your storage must be right for it to have a long lasting life.

So how do you store your Old Town Kayak? Well firstly, if at all possible, store your kayak on it’s side, or stand it up on one end. An other option is to have it up side down, but if your going to use this idea you must have the kayak in slings or on cradle saw horses so that it’s off the ground and this method will stop the decks from going out of shape.

If you have to have your kayak outside then you should have an Old Town Kayak cockpit cover to stop any rain from getting inside the kayak and damaging the wood. Protect your kayak from the sunlight as the UV rays can damage the paint work so a good idea is to have a tarp over it but don’t just lay the tarp over the boat it’s self, make a little cabinet of some sort for it because if you just have the tarp laying on the kayak then the heat from the sun will become very hot under that tarp and will damage your paint work or even distort the hull. So be carefull to make sure there is some sort of circulation going on there.

Lastly make sure your kayak is tide down, as there are some strong winds that could lift your kayak off the ground and damage it. Again simple things to remember and be ready for when the time comes to buying your kayak.
