It needs to be sunny nearly every day and not below 60 degrees fahrenheit for a high temperature on average. I live in boston and am looking at colleges. I graduate in june 08, and hate new england weather, i mean hate. Even in the summer it is too cloudy or rainy. Even though the summer is decent it only lasts for 10 weeks. People tell me weather doesnt affect them but they dont know better. When it is not nice out i stay inside and am useless and depressed. I lived in san diego and glendale arizona when i was younger and was in great shape because i could kayak, swim, etc. Bottom line is although new england has some of the best colleges I wouldnt be happy.

You can order one of these uber-popular WindPaddle sails at their website, windpaddle.com. “…The WindPaddle…solves many of the problems associated with kayak sails—the bulk, the hassles of foredeck storage, the overbig presence—in a unique way.” - Wavelength Magazine, January 2008
I’m from OKC, so whitewater is nearly non-existent around here. But I still want a good all-around kayak. The only two I have found used around here are a Mainstream Inspiration (12ft) for 0 and a Perception American (13.6ft) for 0. Both of them come with sprayskirts, jackets, and paddles. But I’m wondering if the Perception is really 0 better than the Mainstream. I’ll be using the kayak mostly for river trips and choppy lakes. I’ve read the reviews on both, but I haven’t found anything conclusive for either.
Gus & I go kayak fishing in the 10000 islands of south Florida, and I hook a good-sized blacktip shark. This video was done with a helmet cam, and it gives you the perspective of being in the cockpit of the 22″-wide sea kayak, as though you were catching the shark yourself. Be sure to watch all 3 parts - it gets better as it continues. All 3 segments will take a whole 15 minutes out of your life - I think it’ll be worth it. This is the final part. Please leave comments, but understand… the PETA stuff will be deleted. One of my concerns, is that beginning kayak fishers will read the reports that I write, watch the You Tube videos, etc., and get the impression that this is an established sport, and that anyone with a kayak and a fishing rod can go out and do it. I do not mean to give that impression. Fishing for shark, tarpon, amberjack, cobia, etc. from kayaks is NOT for the uninitiated. There are real risks, and real dangers involved. Sure, it’s exciting, but it is “extreme kayak fishing”. When you go after these species and other large species, you are dealing with an apex predator that is capable of putting a real hurt on you when things go wrong. You need to know the risks, and be prepared… and even then, things can still go wrong. If you are thinking about doing extreme kayak fishing, then you need to understand that you are taking the risks upon yourself. I understand that, and accept that. I am not new to kayaking. I have been kayaking for about 15 years, and …
i like to paddle alot and am thinking of moving here, just wanted to have an idea on what the rivers do. when are they running best? How long do they run for, what time of year. Please someone give me some info. thanks.
I have an Old town Guide 147 canoe that I take out quite a bit when the weather is nice and its great for rolling down slow rivers. I can handle it alone but carrying the canoe for any real distance quickly becomes tiring because it weighs in at around 75 lbs.
I live near a national park and I wanted to check out some creeks along the river but the problem is that this would require me to paddle upstream quite a bit and in a canoe that can get very tiring, very quick. My canoe weighs 75, I weigh 200, im packing camera gear and I have to carry two 50lbs bags of sand to sit in the front to keep the nose down. Obviously the whole setup can be a hassle.
I would like a recommendation for a good kayak that has enough storage to store at least a single backpack that will contain camera gear. It would be the size of any normal school backpack. I also want something fairly stable so that if I do have a camera out at times, I dont feel like I always on the verge of rolling it and dumping my gear. I would also like a kayak that provides the most from each paddle stroke because I plan on long trips upriver as well as down.
If I can keep this around 400 I would be happy but paying more is a possibility if necessary.
