Floating

July 31st, 2010 |

Took my wife and her brother and his wife for a trip down the Holston River in Mendota, Virginia. I told them that “you wouldn’t have to paddle except to steer”. That is pretty much how they did it! It was a great time and if you look, you can see an eagle flying out of the trees right at the front of the video.

What kind of camera support works for kayaking?

July 31st, 2010 |

I have a 500mm lens I like for bird watching, and I have a Wilderness Systems Pamlico 135 kayak to take out to the Sacramento Delta. Does anybody have any good suggestions to hold the lens steady for photos? With the right paddling partner, I could put a sandbag on their shoulder to hold the lens still, but that wont do much good on solo trips.
thankx,
Andy

Kayak Fishing.mov

Keys Kayak Fishing at it’s finest. Shot by Tedd Carroll in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The video follows expert kayak fisherman Michael Hudson on a fine morning of fishing in skinny water. Michael is from N’awlins and is as good at cookin as he is at catchin. The kayaks are made by Hobie, and have a pedal drive that allows you to keep your hands free for fishing, or in this case shooting video. Michael is still down in the keys enjoying the sun, but I am landlocked in Illinois in the snow. Please enjoy this little documentary on a very laid-back lifestyle, with a few injections of excitement like sharks and barracuda. Tedd Carroll

Any advice on whether kayaking or canoeing is easiest for paddling beginners who are over 60 years old?

July 28th, 2010 |

Man and wife who love the outdoors, not looking for the excitement of whitewater and not for fishing. Mainly looking to canoe/kayak creeks, lakes, large ponds where wind and weather may have an effect. We have canoed and do enjoy it, but never kayaked. We want safety and ease. Possible overnight trips.

Extreme Kayak Shark Fishing pt 2, a LULU of a Blacktip Shark

July 27th, 2010 |

Gus & I go kayak fishing in the 10000 islands of south Florida, and I hook a good-sized blacktip shark. This video was done with a helmet cam, and it gives you the perspective of being in the cockpit of the 22″-wide sea kayak, as though you were catching the shark yourself. Be sure to watch all 3 parts - it gets better as it continues. All 3 segments will take a whole 15 minutes out of your life - I think it’ll be worth it. Please leave comments, but understand… the PETA stuff will be deleted. One of my concerns, is that beginning kayak fishers will read the reports that I write, watch the You Tube videos, etc., and get the impression that this is an established sport, and that anyone with a kayak and a fishing rod can go out and do it. I do not mean to give that impression. Fishing for shark, tarpon, amberjack, cobia, etc. from kayaks is NOT for the uninitiated. There are real risks, and real dangers involved. Sure, it’s exciting, but it is “extreme kayak fishing”. When you go after these species and other large species, you are dealing with an apex predator that is capable of putting a real hurt on you when things go wrong. You need to know the risks, and be prepared… and even then, things can still go wrong. If you are thinking about doing extreme kayak fishing, then you need to understand that you are taking the risks upon yourself. I understand that, and accept that. I am not new to kayaking. I have been kayaking for about 15 years, and have experienced extreme

Dragonfly Innovations Kayak

July 23rd, 2010 |

Ever jumped straight into one of those cool looking, dart-like kayaks? The playboats? Or those long and slim sea puppies? Ever fallen out as quick as you hopped in ’cause you’ve never kayaked before? Don’t let it discourage you: just like surfing in kayaking you have to start by getting a handle on the basics. That’d be balance, people. So the good folk at Roman have teamed with Dragonfly Innovations to bring to Australasia a range of starter kayaks aimed at getting more people into the sport. Now even the most wicked paddler should agree that’s a good thing. And so too then, are these boats…

From the outdoor activities especially interesting was the visit of Heon - a nice town, by the way the capital of the Province of Heon. There, through a quiz prepared by BIOK and CERT office, the participants were given a paper with questions to find the most remarkable sights in the town. It was interesting to roam the boulevards and the narrow streets of the old part of the city, looking for the Heon’s most interesting points.
We also will not forget the hiking to the Norquero Cave. Spending around 4 hours to reach it, walking and climbing and enjoying a forest fruits. One day we went to do a kayak on a lake, which was very wonderful, especially for those who did it for a first time. Outdoors activities provided us with one more useful experience by examining the river Imanas. That activity was carried out with members of BIOK, most of them teachers in natural sciences at the Heon University. The river, full with trouts and clear like tear was great refreshment. We simply stuck in it swimming and playing a ball.

I feel so depressed. How do you think of my kayak coach and my parents?

July 18th, 2010 |

I am a 23-year-old gay man. I study an undergarduate course in Australia. Now I am taking a study break until Feb 2009.I am at Hong Kong, my home town now.Yesterday I took a kayak exam in the sea.During exam,no one allowed to wear glasses. When it’s my turn,I asked my classmate if he can take care of my glasses for a while. He said no problem. After exam,my classmate says he had dropped my glasses into the sea.I said I requested for a compensation. My classmate said he wouldn’t comensate for the glasses. The coach said,"If I drop your glasses into the sea, I wouldn’t compensate for yours as well. So is your classmate.Since your classmate doesn’t lose your glasses on purpose, he’s not responsible for that." The coach said,"If I lose all the 8 classmates belongings, does it mean I need to make compensation to all of you?If yes,I don’t need to work as a coach!" Then I said it’s unreasonable. I quarrel with the coach and the classmate until the class ended. I keep on demanding the compensation. Back home, I talked about what happened with my family.
Today, it’s my another kayak exam. I went to there as usual. As I reach the watersports centre,I found my dad unexpectedly. He said he had secretly followed me to the watersports centre. As soon as he saw to coach,he came up to her and chatted.I said" Dad,I am the victim, not you. Can you please let me bargain with the coach and classmate ON MY OWN? I am 23 already."My dad refused and shouted at me" Go away, son.Get out of my sight until I finished talking with your classmate and coach. If you don’t, I will beat you up in public!".He roared and beat me and everyone was looking at me and dad.My coach said" Keep away from me and your dad.We need a private chat." I said," Why can’t I listen about the bargain of compensation?I am the victim of the accident ?"Then asked me to shut up together. After 30 mins, my dad came up to me and said"We’ve made an agreement to compensate half of the eye-glasses price ($HK 400) to you. We’ve signed all the documents."

Back home, my mom critisized me for not cooperating and obeying with my dad.She said " Let dad do what he wants. He is your dad even though you are 23 already. You are so stupid that you make your dad angry."

1) How do you think of my Chinese dad, Chinese mum and my coach? Bullying?

2) Do you think it’s ironic that I am the victim of the incident but I was not allowed to take part in the negotiation on the 2nd day ?

HOW TO GET IN AND OUT OF A KAYAK

July 17th, 2010 |

If you want to know how to launch a kayak, get on or off a kayak, get in or out of a kayak , how to use a paddle or oar to get on or off a kayak - you need to see this video. Accudock went to great lengths coming up with a very small floating Kayak dock with incredible stability that would allow easy and safe access to a kayak at low low tides. This is our smallest dock in our Kayak and Rowing dock line-up - yet it has the stability of a very large dock due to our stabilizing brackets, and has room to tie your Kayak down for storage until you’re ready to use it.
