Can someone suggest a good personal gps unit for hiking and kayaking?
June 16th, 2010 |I am looking for a personal gps unit for hiking and kayaking. I saw one not too long ago that works very very simply. You turn it on and mark your position when starting out and it tells you how to get back. That’s all it does. It is meant to be worn on a jacket zipper or a lanyard. Can someone tall me where to find it or suggest something else? Thanks in advance.

Whitewater kayaking question?
June 6th, 2010 |I live a few miles from a river called Fish Creek (in NY) and it is known for some of the best/most challenging whitewater in the state. The upper part has several class 3+, a few class 4 rapids, one class 5 and one class 6. Its intense. There is a dam however that kind of slows the river down because the highest level rapid after the dam is a class 3+. This is where we would start.
I have never WHITEWATER KAYAKED before. I have been Whitewater rafting a couple times and I go kayaking/canoeing all the time just nothing higher than class 2 (technically making it whitewater). I am very physically fit and I love challenges, its why I get up in the morning.
I own an Old Town Otter (bottom of the line closed-cockpit) and it doesnt even have foot braces.
WILL I BE ABLE TO HANDLE CLASS 2-3+ RAPIDS WITH THIS CRAFT?
I am not worried about myself, I just dont want to try something with equipment that isnt suitable. I know they make special whitewater kayaks that cost thousands, with one of those I wouldnt hesitate to try any level rapid.
Will my otter make it? Why, why not?
Any other suggestions/advice greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Im not taking any advice from a Dutchmen….

And price does matter for me, so if they are fairly close to each other performance wise, I will probably buy the cheapest one.

The Old Town brand has caught my attention with there Old Town Rush, Otter, and Otter XT. Now I’m 200lbs so I get by on the weight capacity but I am also 6′4 so I think there might be a problem. Would these kayaks fit me? if not what are some other good starter kayaks?

which kayak is better?
June 2nd, 2010 |I am looking for a new kayak for fishing in fresh & salt water. I have it between 2 models; the Wilderness systems Tarpon 120 angler and the Ocean Prowler 13 angler. Any advice??? I can’t seem to make the decision. Really would like to hear what you don’t like about each of these as well as that may be the determining factor. I will be buying the new 2010 model either way..
If you think I should consider a different kayak brand I am open to suggestions but have looked at a lot of different ones before getting to these 2.
