Which kayak would be good for me?

May 29th, 2010 |

I’m 16 and got into kayaking nearly 3 years ago and love it, I like to try all the differant techniques from river to playboating and I am joining a Kayak Polo team.

But the problem is…I’m almost 6ft3 and still growing, (in comparison I was 6foot in November. So I would need a pretty big kayak.

I think I would like a type of pyranha kayak because they are easy for all rounders and I can still use (most of them) as playboats.

So anyone any ideas or had experiance with tall guys and kayaks?

Oh two more things,

1, I hate being cramped in a boat, completely makes me uneasy, I like leg room!

2, I’m rather skinny.

I have my choices down to the old town otter, and the old town rush. which of those is better? and can you recommend any other good ones? thanks

May 26th, 2010 |

My friend and I are looking for an estuary, reserve or something very smooth and easy to go kayaking. I don’t know what’s good this time of year, if anything. We’re open to a tour and would have to rent kayaks either way.

What to pack for a romantic b-day kayaking trip?

May 24th, 2010 |

Hello world! I want to take my boyfriend out on a birthday-valentine’s kayaking trip but would love to treat him to some really good food during the trip. I have no idea what to pack since I’m not exactly a gourmet cook. He’s a guy who likes pizza and anything chicken. There’s lots of room and I can bring ice for cold drinks but what else can I impress him with? I would appreciate any thoughts on healthy and hearty easy to put together foods please…thanks so much for the ideas! :-)

What is a good kayak to purchase?

May 23rd, 2010 |

I’m looking to buy my first kayak. I know for sure I like the Old Town Loon 138 so something along that line would be great. I was wondering, for a smaller person does the width and/or length make a difference? I was also looking at the Calypso Women’s Kayak Light Touring. Both can be found at LLBean. These or any other kakay around 0-0 would be great. Thanks =)

Did I get a good deal on these kayaks?

May 21st, 2010 |

Today I purchased an Old Town Loon 100, an Old Town Loon 111 and the complete Yakima roof rack system to carry both for 0. I need to purchase the proper towers for the rack which will run me about 0 with the clips. I think I came out with a good deal, but I don’t know much about kayaks. Please give me your professional opinion. By the way, if anyone needs a set of 4 Yakima 1A Raingutter towers, let me know. I know you know your stuff, so thanks in advance!!

Which Kayak would be better?

May 21st, 2010 |

I will be kayaking in the Pocono region. I’ve read other people’s answers on the subject, so I know the Pro’s and Con’s. I just need a little more convincing. I really want to get a sit on top, but I’m not sure. Also If you know where I could get a new or used Kayak in the Leigh Vally or Pocono area that would be great. Thank You All Very Much!!!
I will be kayaking on a river, but I don’t that it is really rough. It’s a river that leads into Lake Wallenpaupack. I’m leaning more towards a sit on top, rather than a regular sit in side kayak.
Also, I will probably only be kayaking in the summer.

Would kayaking be a good way to cross-train for rowing?

May 20th, 2010 |

I mean when you do it right, like the sprint kayak competitors. Not like taking a leisurely paddle on the river.

I am a rower but I cannot afford my own shell to practice in by myself. I know rowing works more muscles, but would kayaking work muscles that matter for rowing or is it all just arms?

Kayak Fish Finder Installation: Episode 8

May 20th, 2010 |

John “Toast” Oast and Dan Hart of Fishyaker.com demonstrate how easy it is to install a fish finder onto a sit-on-top kayak. All that is needed is a fish finder with cables and transducer, sandpaper, Marine Goop or epoxy, mounting hardware, a screwdriver, and a drill. Make sure you allow the glue to fully dry before moving the kayak. Most any 12 volt hobby battery can be used as a power source. Check out the Fishyaker Youtube site for more kayak fishing how-to’s. Hey, we have a kayak car carrier question…?

May 17th, 2010 |

My daughter and i bought one kayak (Old Town Voyager) and we are thinking about getting another kayak but, we are not sure they can both fit on top of our car (Pontiac Vibe). Chances are, we’d get another kayak that’s an Old Town Voyager or one very similar (one for beginers). What we need to know is where can we get kayak car holder for two kayaks to fit on the top of our little Pontiac Vibe.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW?
WE NEED HELP!
