I am thinking of buying my first kayak. Both seem to have advantages and disadvantages over the other. Most of my kayaking will be on the Indian River here in Florida, so there will be a few windy days, a very few days with white caps, and fairly shallow water (plus/minus 3 ft.). Which would you buy and why?

I am planning on kayaking around the pictured rocks in the beginning of August, but I have no idea of what to wear since it will probably be chilly. Any suggestions?
Any Kayaking fans out there?? The water will be about 54 degrees (f) and the air temp will probably be around 70 degrees (f).

What is the minimum thickness and size for a wet suit needed for kayaking in 32-degree water?

I’ve been kayaking with a Sevylor Tahiti Classic but finally got sick of having an inflatable and decided to get into hardshell kayaks. I’ve been looking at the Old Town Otter or the Pelican Pursuit 100 for about a few months now. Since i’m a college student with a small budget is one of these a good kayak to start out with?
They’re priced around 240-270 bucks.
WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET???
Jet Kayak brings you Surfango Kayaks Surf Boards and Ocean Kayaks with environmentally friendly water jet propelled 4 stroke engines that take you anywhere you want to go.
I’m planning a kayaking trip through Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico - Anyway back to the question…
Is this a major safety issue? Would is pose as a threat if I am camping along the river? What should you do if you did encounter one?

It’s a short race, not anything long distance. it’s gonna be 100% all the way. Thanks!

Okay I have narrowed it down to two:
ClearWater Design Muskoka 12ft
Or
ClearWater Design Iqaluit 12ft
I would be using the kayak for 1-7 day trips and also alot for fishing. Both kayaks are similar, but the Iqaluit has a much larger cockpit which I would think be an advantage for fishing. I’ve never fished from a kayak and was wondering which would be a better choice for my needs. Do I sacrifice better quality, tracking and speed for better fishing? Does the bigger cockpit really make a huge difference in fishing? FWI im no beginner fisherman.
Muskoka cockpit = 34" X 16"
Iqaluit cockpit = 51" X 18"
I live in Denver, Colorado and I’ve taken 2 whitewater kayaking lessons before and LOVED it. I’m kind of a ski bum and need something to do in the off season.
I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars getting set up, and these lessons are either beginner or expert it seems (and EXPENSIVE). My friends are all scared of the water so I have no one to do it with. Where do I begin?
I am about to purchase an Old Town Otter Kayak and I am more used to kayaks with compartments so that my kayak wont "sink". The Old Town Otter kayak has two styrofoam blocks at each end with no compartments and I was wondering if it will sink.
FYI, this "IS" research.
Thank you wildraft, I understand they dont sink. I am speaking of when they are full of water and submerged if they sink. I have never delt with a kayak with no sealed compartments.

And where can I buy it online for the best price? One-person, for short/moderate distance trips (non-touring, 25 mile trips at the most) in mild rivers; cargo room/nets are nice but not in place of speed. I’m of intermediate skill level. Any help you can offer is great, thanks.

I am wondering if there are any ways I can prepare myself for summer kayaking by learning paddling techniques out of the water? And are there any instructional videos I could use?
I recently bought used Old Town Loon 138 Kayak and want to add a dry hatch to it - though I could just order a kit but cant seem to find one anywhere online for the Old Town kayaks? does anyone know where I can order one from?
